An update has emerged on Tottenham Hotspur and their chances of attracting Thomas Tuchel to be their next manager...

What's the talk?

German reporter Florian Plettenberg has claimed that Spurs are not a 'serious' contender to be the German's next club as the ex-Chelsea head coach has his eyes set on a possible move to Spain.

He Tweeted: "X News #Tuchel: Tottenham is not a serious future option. We‘ve been told that he has 2 big aims as a next step: 1. Barcelona (Because of his admiration for Pep & La Masia) 2. Real Madrid Juventus is also interesting for him. But not now. He‘s still learning (Spanish). @SkySportDE." This comes after the Evening Standard reported that Tuchel would be keen on the Tottenham job, amid uncertainty surrounding Antonio Conte's position - due to his current contract expiring in the summer.

Big blow

This will come as a particularly big blow for chairman Daniel Levy as it comes after the news that Fabio Paratici is set to be banned from football activities for a whopping 30 months as part of an investigation at Juventus, which could now leave the club without a sporting director heading into the rest of the transfer window and beyond. Although, The Sun have reported that The FA are unsure of when they will need to uphold that decision and that Paratici is poised to appeal the decision. This means that, in the short-term at least, Levy could be solely responsible for appointing a new manager in the summer, or earlier, if Conte ends up departing. Therefore, the news that Tuchel would not seriously consider a move to Tottenham is a big blow for the chief as the German manager could have been an excellent appointment for the club. At Chelsea, the 49-year-old achieved great success in Europe by winning the UEFA Super Cup, the Club World Cup, and the Champions League in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 campaigns combined. Conte, meanwhile, has never won a European competition and has only ever reached one final, which he lost with Inter, in his career and this indicates that the out-of-work German would be a significant upgrade in continental competitions. Tuchel also finished in the top four in both of his full seasons at Stamford Bridge and this shows that the 49-year-old is also capable of achieving relative success in the Premier League, whilst being extremely competitive in Europe. Therefore, the German head coach not viewing Tottenham as a serious destination for his next job is a big blow for Levy and one that could leave the Spurs chief scrambling around if Conte does not extend his stay in London beyond the end of the season.
