Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, former Tottenham defender Graham Roberts has revealed his bemusement over Jose Mourinho's comments on Toby Alderweireld.

Following Tottenham's 2-2 draw with Newcastle United last weekend, Mourinho claimed that Alderweireld was excluded from the matchday squad because he had missed two days of training ahead of the fixture at St. James' Park.

However, there is photographic and video evidence of Alderweireld taking part in the Thursday and Friday training sessions prior to the game, while the MailOnline also reports that the 32-year-old did have his Covid test upon returning from international duty despite Mourinho claiming otherwise.

The entire situation has left Roberts, who recently spoke to Football FanCast, completely puzzled. The Tottenham legend told FFC:

"We don't know what's happening at the moment. If you believe what the manager is saying, and you should do because he's the one that's in charge of the football team, then... if Toby missed his Covid test, then, you know, he can't play.

"But he's then training out on the pitch that day or the day before, so we just don't know what's going on at the moment. It's a bit up and down."

Whatever happened, Mourinho, Alderweireld and Tottenham will be keen to put it behind them, with this being a huge month for the club.

The north London outfit's Carabao Cup final against Manchester City is only around the corner.
