Loads of Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting on Twitter following a story that originated in SportBild, via Get French Football News, saying that RB Leipzig defender and reported Spurs target Dayot Upamecano wants to leave the club this summer.

The 21-year-old impressed as the German side knocked the north London outfit out of the Champions League over two legs earlier this month, and is clearly seen as one of the best young centre-halves in European football right now given he is being eyed by the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

SportBild, via GFFN, report that his release clause is set to drop by £17m each season, which means he could be available for €60m (£55m) this summer – it remains to be seen whether Daniel Levy would be willing to pay that fee.

Jose Mourinho could certainly do with defensive reinforcements though with Toby Alderweireld getting no younger and Jan Vertonghen's contract expiring at the end of the 2019/20 campaign, as well as the fact they have conceded 40 goals in their 29 Premier League matches this term.

Spurs fans have been quick to react to the report on social media, and there are loads that would love to see the youngster arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with more than one urging Levy to pay the money.

Other supporters were a little more sceptical because of his injury record.

They are right to be concerned about that too, given he has missed a total of 33 games through injury since the beginning of the 2017/18 season, as per Transfermarkt.

Others weren't convinced that the young Frenchman would actually want to join them if they did pay the money, and that is an understandable viewpoint.

It remains to be seen what is going to happen with the Premier League season, but if it restarts and Spurs miss out on Champions League football, that could easily prove to be something that affects Upamecano's decision - especially if someone like Bayern are keen, too.

No clues whatsoever: Which seasons do these iconic Spurs images belong to?

One fan also hinted that they'd like a completely new centre-back partnership of him and Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly - a pipe dream if we're being honest, especially with Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga already at Tottenham.

Lastly, one supporter believes that amongst all the chat about Upamecano, Spurs would be more likely to end up with Dejan Lovren, with the Liverpool defender linked with them in recent weeks.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs fans have been reacting to another transfer link with a player who would cost at least £46m, with one supporter saying"swap for Ndombele?"...
