After months full of speculation and intrigue, the transfer window finally slammed shut on Thursday evening, with Tottenham Hotspur having enjoyed a hectic summer which saw eight major deals completed.

For all that activity, however, manager Antonio Conte was left somewhat frustrated that the north London outfit weren't able to carry out even more business before the deadline, with the serial-winning Italian pointing to the gulf that exists between his side and their Premier League rivals.

As it is, Spurs' transfer activity is now done and dusted - until January, at least - and we at Football FanCast have subsequently selected the Lilywhites' best starting XI after that summer of recruitment...

Despite the wave of new additions, we believed that at present the club's strongest line-up would feature just two of those summer recruits, one of which is Argentina international Cristian Romero who recently signed on a permanent deal after his stunning loan spell last term.

Joining the 24-year-old in the backline is the seemingly ever-present Eric Dier and loanee Clement Lenglet, with the Frenchman having caught the eye with a "composed" display on debut  - in the words of journalist Alasdair Gold - in the recent victory over newly-promoted Fulham.

With long-serving skipper Hugo Lloris in goal, on the flanks should well be Emerson Royal and Ryan Sessegnon, with the latter deserving of a place in this side ahead of new arrival Ivan Perisic, having impressed in the early weeks of the season.

While the veteran Croatian ace has been dubbed "world-class" by club insider John Wenham, it is Sessegnon who has been lauded by his manager of late, with the former Chelsea boss lauding him as a "reliable" asset earlier this week.

In midfield, despite the acquisition of former Brighton and Hove Albion maestro Yves Bissouma, it would seem that Conte's strongest and most cohesive pairing remains that of Pierre-Emile Hojberg and Rodrigo Bentancur, with the Spurs boss admitting last term that his side are "more complete" as a result of the Uruguayan's January arrival from Juventus.

Perhaps the biggest selection headache lies in attack, with £60m man Richarlison having somewhat set the cat among the pigeons following his strong early impact in his new surroundings.

That being said, it is hard to look past the dynamic trio of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski, with the latter man deserving of his place having registered 16 goal contributions in just 24 league games for the club this calendar year.

Equally, even amid a difficult run of form for the aforementioned Son - who has just one goal involvement so far this term - the South Korea international is still a shoo-in for this side, having only recently clinched the Golden Boot after netting 23 top-flight goals during the 2021/22 campaign.
