Tottenham Hotspur could tick a lot of boxes in the summer by potentially bringing in the Brentford goalkeeper David Raya as their successor for Hugo Lloris.

What's the latest?

There are reports emerging from north London suggesting Lloris' time in north London could be coming to an end with the Lilywhites being linked with a number of other goalkeepers.

One of the names to be linked with a potential switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the Everton and England goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford.

And another is Brentford's Raya who was part of Spain's World Cup squad for the recent tournament in Qatar - albeit an unused substitute.

Speaking to Football FanCast, the journalist Pete O'Rourke believes the Spanish shot-stopper is an option which would tick a lot of boxes for Antonio Conte's squad:

"I think now the last couple of seasons in the Premier League with Brentford, his stats are right up there as among the top goalkeepers in the Premier League.

"So I think he would definitely tick a lot of boxes. If Spurs are looking to bring in a long-term number one to replace Lloris."

An upgrade on Lloris?

There has been no escaping some of the criticism surrounding Lloris so far this season with some pundits slamming the Frenchman for some of the mistakes he has made this far in the Premier League.

However, he has also shown some great performances for Spurs including the game after his blunder against Aston Villa when Spurs turned their fortunes around at Crystal Palace.

But it is perhaps this lack of consistency that is sparking some of the frustration around the Frenchman and his spot as the starting goalkeeper in north London.

Although there are potentially some issues surrounding Lloris' consistency with his hands, there has never been any real belief that Lloris is among the top goalkeepers when required to pass the ball out.

In comparison, Raya has averaged more passes per game as well as over double the number of long passes and progressive distance throughout a game this season (via Fbref).

On top of that, the Spaniard has averaged a higher amount of shot-creating actions per 90. Demonstrating the 27-year-old's superior distribution with the ball at his feet.

Raya is unable to match the experience the 36-year-old now has under his belt but it does appear as if Spurs are seriously considering the next step with Lloris having just 18 months left on his contract.
