Tottenham Hotspur are now open to offers this month for their Brazilian right-back Emerson Royal after a difficult spell in north London.

What's the latest?

Emerson has now been playing his football in N17 for over a year following his move from Barcelona in 2021 which is believed to have been worth in the region of £25.8m.

However, it seems as if this could be the last few weeks playing for Tottenham with the reliable Spurs journalist Alasdair Gold claiming the 23-year-old could be headed for the exit this month.

The Brazilian was signed during the brief Nuno Espirito Santo era at Tottenham which saw the Lilywhites playing with a flat back four, but now with Antonio Conte at the helm, it seems as if Spurs are looking to change things up at right wing-back:

(55:40) "But he does love a bit of Emerson Royal. Although this is the weird thing is that we kind of know that the club will listen to offers for Emerson Royal. It's such a strange situation," he said on the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast when discussing who may stat on the weekend.

Not a Conte wing-back

It has become apparent Emerson is not a fit for Conte's system which demands goals and assists from his wing-backs with the Brazilian still yet to add to the assist he provided on the opening day of the season.

He has now made 61 appearances for Spurs since making the move from the Spanish giants, but in those games, he has returned just one goal and two assists.

This is simply not good enough for a Conte wing-back. In comparison, on the other side of the pitch, Ivan Perisic has already returned eight assists in his 24 appearances since signing in the summer.

Spurs are seemingly looking to bring in another right wing-back this month and one of the options is believed to be the Sporting CP star, Pedro Porro.

However, there also seems to be reservations surrounding the price tag put on the Spaniard from the Portuguese side this month with Spurs since cooling their interest.

Amid the January window and the reports, Matt Doherty is showing some signs of finding some form under Conte with a goal in the game against Crystal Palace on Wednesday as well as his goals during the friendlies in the World Cup break.

There has even been some talk of Doherty potentially being up for sale this month and with Djed Spence waiting in the wings, there is clearly options there for Conte to deal with Emerson's possible departure.

And as reports emerge over a potential bust-up at Hotspur Way involving Emerson and a member of coaching staff and loud boos from the Spurs fans when he enters the field, it seems as if he could be set for a new challenge soon.
