Jose Mourinho looks to have been handed a big injury boost ahead of Tottenham's game against Crystal Palace on Sunday, with Serge Aurier confirmed to be fit for the visit of Roy Hodgson's side.
The Ivory Coast international missed the trip to Fulham in midweek through injury but Mourinho has confirmed that he should be fit for the game on Sunday.
After a difficult few seasons with the north London club, Aurier has established himself as first-choice right-back under the Portuguese manager, with Matt Doherty having failed to impress since his summer move from Wolves.
The former PSG man has averaged an impressive 7.03 WhoScored rating across his 14 appearances in the top flight this season, having contributed two goals and one assist in that time.
Doherty meanwhile, has no goals and just one assist in 13 Premier League appearances, in which he has averaged a disappointing 6.68 match rating from WhoScored.
Despite establishing himself as a top right-back during his time at Wolves, where he was renowned for his ability going forward, he has unfortunately been something of a liability for Spurs so far this season, evidenced by his ridiculous sending off when Spurs were 3-0 up against Leeds United earlier in the season.
Mourinho may well be relieved that he can axe the £18m-rated Republic of Ireland international for the game against Palace, with Aurier perhaps likely to come back into the team against the Eagles.
The Portuguese manager will also be relieved that the 28-year-old is available at a busy time for Spurs, with games coming thick and fast in the Premier League and the Europa League at the moment, which might have seen the former Manchester United boss deploy Japhet Tanganga in that position again rather than trusting Doherty to play twice or even three times a week.
Therefore, it is a big boost to have Aurier back for the game against Palace; and considering the difference in their performances so far this season, it would not be a surprise to see him start ahead of Doherty on Sunday evening.
