Spurs: Antonio Conte handed Dejan Kulusevski hope

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a faint hope that Dejan Kulusevski could be fit to feature against Manchester United this evening.

What’s the latest?

That’s according to Premierinjuries.com, who suggest that the 22-year-old – who has not featured for Spurs since September as a result of a thigh injury – will undergo a late fitness test ahead of the trip to Old Trafford, with the winger believed to have a 25% chance of being fit to feature against Erik ten Hag’s side on Wednesday night.

In comments made ahead of the fixture, Antonio Conte also hinted that there is a possibility the Sweden international could play some part against the Red Devils, with the 53-year-old stating:

“Kulusevski is working. We will see, we will see. We have to go day by day with him and the medical department are working a lot to try to recover him, but we don’t know for the game against United.”

Huge boost

While it would appear unlikely that, even if Kulusevski were to be deemed fit to feature against United, the forward would be included in Conte’s starting XI at Old Trafford, the Italian manager having the option of the attacker to bring on from the bench would nevertheless come as a huge boost to the 53-year-old.

Indeed, the £69.5m-rated talent has become an integral part of the Tottenham side since his January 2022 arrival in north London, having already scored six goals and registered 11 assists over his 29 appearances for the club – averaging a direct goal involvement every 114 minutes of football played for Spurs.

These returns have seen the £110k-per-week forward form an incredibly deadly attacking trio alongside Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, with Kulusevski being so impressive that Conte has largely abandoned his previously favoured 3-5-2 set-up for a 3-4-3 formation – something that has brought a great deal of success on the pitch for third-placed Spurs.

Furthermore, with Richarlison being ruled out of Wednesday’s fixture due to a calf injury picked up in the 2-0 win over Everton last weekend, the availability of the 22-year-old would undoubtedly be a very welcome development for Conte ahead of such an important fixture.

At what age did Kane make his debut for Tottenham?

Indeed, with a win in Manchester simultaneously seeing Spurs move to within one point of Arsenal at the top of the table and ten points clear of United in fifth, the three points on offer this evening are incredibly valuable in Tottenham’s pursuit of a top-four finish this season – with Kulusevski’s availability undoubtedly increasing Conte’s chances of a win against the Red Devils.
