Spurs: Antonio Conte dealt Lucas Moura injury blow

Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt an injury blow ahead of their Premier League meeting with Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.

What’s the latest?

Speaking to SPURSPLAY after first-team training on Thursday, Antonio Conte revealed that Lucas Moura, who has not featured for Tottenham since August 20 as a result of a tendon issue, will once again be unavailable for the visit of the Foxes this weekend.

However, the Italian went on to reveal that the remainder of his squad got through the 2-0 Champions League defeat to Sporting Lisbon unscathed, meaning that Spur have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the clash with Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Regarding the current condition of the Brazil international, Conte said: “Yes, only Lucas is out. The other players are all available for Leicester.”

Blow for Conte

While it is true that, following the January addition of Dejan Kulusevski and the summer signing of Richarlison, Moura is not as close to the top of Conte’s wide-attacking pecking order as he was last season, the continued absence of the 30-year-old will never the less have come as a blow to the 52-year-old.

Indeed, over his 34 Premier League appearances in 2021/22, the £13.5m-rated talent proved an extremely useful attacking option for Conte, scoring two goals, registering six assists and creating 11 big chances – the second-most in the Spurs squad – for his teammates, in addition to taking an average of 1.1 shots, making one key pass and completing 1.6 dribbles per game.

How well do you know Spurs manager Antonio Conte? Question 1. During his playing days, in which position did Conte typically operate?

These returns saw the £80k-per-week winger average a very respectable SofaScore match rating of 7.00, ranking him as Tottenham’s 10th-best performer in the top flight of English football last time out.

As such, while the 35-cap international may not have been in line for a start at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Moura is undoubtedly an excellent option for Conte to be able to call upon from the bench – leading us to believe that the 30-year-old’s unavailability is certainly bad news for the Italian manager.
