Having impressed during his initial six months on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, the north London side exercised their option to sign Giovani Lo Celso on a permanent basis in a deal reported to be worth around £55m in January of 2020.

That season, the central midfielder went on to make a total of 28 Premier League appearances for Spurs, registering two assists and creating one big chance for his teammates, as well as making an average of 0.3 interceptions, 1.8 tackles, 29.3 passes and winning 4.9 duels per game.

However, despite his promising start to life in England, these returns saw the £19.8m-rated Argentina international end the season with a disappointing average SofaScore match rating of just 6.77, ranking him as the club's ninth-worst performer in the league that year.

Things hardly improved for the £100k-per-week midfielder in Spurs' 2020/21 campaign, either, with the 25-year-old managing just 11 Premier League starts - making a further seven appearances from the bench - due to a series of injuries, as well as failing to impress in the limited time he did spend on the pitch, once again averaging a disappointing seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.78.

And, following yet another six months ladened with injury during the first half of the current campaign, where the Argetine managed just two league starts - as well as generally failing to impress for the third season in a row in N17 - Antonio Conte made the decision to send the midfielder out on loan to Villarreal in the January transfer window, with Lo Celso's future at the club looking extremely uncertain at present.

And, considering the fact that the player, who former manager Jose Mourinho once dubbed "phenomenal", has cost Spurs roughly £65.5m in wages and transfer fees during the 105 weeks he spent as a permanent Spurs player, it is clear for all to see that Lo Celso rinsed Daniel Levy of a colossal sum of money.

He has been nothing short of a flop for the club.
