Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced the signing of Djed Spence...

What's the word?

On Tuesday morning, the north London outfit unveiled the 21-year-old defender as their latest arrival.

"We are delighted to announce the signing of Djed Spence from Middlesbrough," the club's official Twitter account tweeted.

In a report by the ever-reliable Spurs reporter Alasdair Gold, it is believed that the north London outfit will pay around £12.5m plus add-ons for the Middlesbrough defender.

The right wing-back completed his medical and conducted media duties with the Premier League side over the weekend, now the deal has been formally announced.

Sixth summer signing

The 21-year-old gem is the latest name signed in Antonio Conte's summer spree, having already brought in the likes of Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Clement Lenglet.

Spence will fix a long-standing problem at Hotspur Way as the Italian head coach has been looking to improve his wing-back positions, with The Times claiming back in January that he was unconvinced by his options of Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty - particularly their quality in the final third.

Adama Traore was targeted but that move fell through, leaving Conte without a solid and reliable right wing-back for the rest of the campaign. Spurs still qualified for the Champions League, though, so now the void must be filled more than ever.

This signing carries some risk, given the England U21 international has never played in the big time, but he has all the potential and attributes to thrive - speed, skill, power and pace.

At an initial £12.5m, it comes at quite a low risk.

Spence, who has been described as "swashbuckling" and "combative" by Arsenal legend Ian Wright, should leave supporters just as happy as Conte, and they should be even more excited now that he has been announced.
