According to Portuguese TV show, Mais Transferencias, Tottenham showed interest in Benfica striker Haris Seferovic.

What's the word?

Jose Mourinho's side have enjoyed a fruitful transfer window thus far, and it seems like their work in the market is yet to be finished.

Mais Transferencias (via Sport Witness) claim that Spurs initially had interest in Seferovic back in January of this year, and now, more recently, they thought of making another move for him, this time on a loan with an option to buy.

The report adds that this proposal was rejected by Benfica, with the Lilywhites instead turning their attentions towards Seferovic's teammate, Carlos Vinicius.

Levy disaster

Whilst it's quite clear Spurs desperately need a striker to give them someone to provide cover for Harry Kane, Seferovic simply isn't the answer.

The 65-cap Switzerland international has never really been a clinical striker, and his output during the 2019/2020 campaign for Benfica really showed that to a tee.

He managed just five goals in 30 league games for the Portuguese giants, whilst his overall record for them and his former club, Eintracht Frankfurt, points to someone who isn't reliable enough as a goal-scorer.

He's managed just 43 goals in 126 matches for Benfica, whilst for Eintracht, he scored a measly 19 in 96. The fact that they wanted him in January, and then came back in for him in this summer transfer window, should have alarm bells ringing for Daniel Levy. The Spurs chairman mustn't make a third mistake by going after Seferovic again.
