An update has emerged regarding Tottenham Hotspur's interest in Nicolo Zaniolo in the summer transfer window...

What's the talk?

According to Sky Sport Italy, Fabio Paratici is in talks with Roma chief Tiago Pinto over multiple deals, including one for the Italy international.

The report claims that the Spurs supremo has not made a firm offer for Zaniolo but has sounded out a potential move for him with Pinto, who wants to pin down the youngster to a fresh contract at the Stadio Olimpico.

Gazzetta dello Sport have recently claimed that the 23-year-old, who his former coach Cristiano Masitto once dubbed “ingenious”, will cost any interested club at least €70m (£59m) to sign.

It is also stated that the pair have been discussing outcast centre-back Joe Rodon as the Serie A side consider a move for him.

Big Steven Bergwijn upgrade

Ajax have reportedly agreed a £20m fee with Spurs to sign Bergwijn this summer after the winger made it clear that he wants regular game-time in the 2022/23 campaign.

With that deal now on the verge of going through, Paratici can land the club a big upgrade on the Dutchman by securing a swoop for Zaniolo.

In the Premier League last term, Bergwijn managed just three goals and one assist in 25 matches, whilst failing to score or set up a single goal in two Europa Conference League outings.

The 24-year-old showed that he is not good enough in the final third to be a player on whom Antonio Conte can rely next season. He is not productive enough at the top of the pitch, and this is why Zaniolo would be a better option, as the Italian has showcased his quality in that department.

In Serie A and Europa Conference League action last term, the Roma gem produced seven goals and six assists for Jose Mourinho, even after recovering from the second ACL injury of his career.

At the age of 22, Zaniolo is a player with potential who can grow and improve as a footballer with a move to north London. He is two years younger than Bergwijn, and his statistics suggest that he is already a more reliable attacker than the Dutchman.

Imagine how good the Italian can be after having more time to recover from his ACL blow and two years of experience playing in England under Conte alongside the likes of Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane, who netted 51 goals between them in 2021/22.
