Spurs told Josko Gvardiol is not for sale this summer

A claim has emerged on Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of landing Josko Gvardiol in the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

Bundesliga reporter Stefan Bienkowski has revealed that RB Leipzig will not be cashing in on the Croatian international this summer.

The journalist has confirmed that both Spurs and Chelsea have made moves to scope out the possibility of a deal but have been met with a firm response from the German outfit.

He tweeted: “Some Transfermarkt news for Chelsea and Tottenham fans: I’ve been told that BOTH clubs have contacted RB Leipzig about Josko Gvardiol but have been told, unequivocally, that the defender is not for sale. The 20-year-old has a contract with the club until 2026.”

Supporters will be gutted

This claim will leave the supporters gutted as it means that they will not be seeing Gvardiol in action for Spurs in the Premier League next season.

In the Bundesliga last term, the 20-year-old showcased his quality as he averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.10 across 29 appearances. He made 3.4 tackles and interceptions per game as he showed that he can perform consistently, to a high level, despite his age.

Germania Sport assistant editor Izak Ante Sucic once hailed the gem’s talents, saying: “Since he was a child, he’s been built like a tank. He can go forward, he can jump, he can tackle – he can do everything you want.”

This comment suggests that he has all the attributes required to make it at the top of the game. Sucic believes that he has a strong physique and this would help him in the English top-flight as it suggests that he would be able to deal with physical forwards, like Michail Antonio and Erling Haaland.

How well do you know Spurs manager Antonio Conte? Question 1. During his playing days, in which position did Conte typically operate?

In fact, Gvardiol played against the soon-to-be Manchester City forward when he played against Borussia Dortmund in April. Leipzig won 4-1 and Haaland lost 100% of his individual duels as he failed to record a goal or assist, whilst the Croatian received a rating of 7.2 and won five of his eight battles.

This shows that he can mix it with the best of the best and has the quality, and attributes, to thrive in the Premier League. Therefore, Spurs supporters will be gutted that he is not coming to the club this summer and will be hoping that Fabio Paratici goes back in for him in a future window.

AND in other news: Paratici can land big Davies upgrade in Spurs deal to sign “immense” £30m “revelation”
