Spurs: Sky Sports journalist drops Harry Kane claim

Sky Sports’ German-based correspondent, Marc Behrenbeck, has delivered a major update on Harry Kane’s future at Spurs this summer.

What’s the story?

The England star was of course the centre of much speculation in the previous summer transfer window, with a failed move to Manchester City seeing him remain in north London.

Now, Behrenbeck has revealed how things are currently looking for the striker and his plans going forward.

A truly wasted talent...

He said: “He is not renewing his contract and wants to try again in the summer to go to Manchester City. He fits perfectly into the system. In addition, it would be almost the last chance for him because of his age.”

Would Conte walk?

Make no mistake about it, more than any signing Antonio Conte could potentially make this summer, keeping Kane is better than absolutely every single one of them.

The forward is the north London side’s beacon of hope for a future of trophies and success, and losing him would be the ultimate hammer blow to both Conte and the club as a whole.

He is ‘one of their own’ after all, and with a remarkable 241 goals in 374 total games for the club, there is simply no one better around for Spurs to even hope of replacing him.

His £200k-per-week contract expires in the summer of 2024, meaning chairman Daniel Levy is certainly left with a huge decision to make once the season is over.

If he is unable to convince his star man into signing a new deal, and thus decides he would be better off cashing in on him, then that could well be the final straw for Conte.

The Italian has had a roller-coaster of a time in his short tenure at Spurs thus far, and there have already been suggestions that he could walk if he doesn’t feel his ambition is being met by the north Londoners.

Seeing Kane depart in the summer, and thus considerably weakening any chances of competing for a Champions League spot next season let alone winning a trophy, may just be the final nail in the coffin for him.

Meanwhile, Conte surely ruing this Spurs star’s exit…
