According to the Manchester Evening News, Tottenham Hotspur are one of the teams interested in signing Dean Henderson during the summer transfer window.

What's the word?

It's claimed by journalist Samuel Luckhurst that the 23-year-old is growing frustrated at his lack of playing time as no.2 behind David De Gea despite signing a new six-year contract before the season got underway.

Spurs' top-flight and London rivals - West Ham and Chelsea - are also said to be monitoring the situation, though it is thought that the Red Devils value the England international at around £40m.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has previously suggested that Henderson would become United's long-term no.1, but evidently, just two league starts all season have led to the possibility of him looking elsewhere in the near future.

Two birds, one stone

The arrival of Henderson at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would see chairman Daniel Levy kill two birds with one stone - a proper successor to the error-prone Hugo Lloris, and one that meets homegrown criteria as post-Brexit regulations begin to take shape.

Indeed, the Spurs skipper has not been himself in recent weeks and, as a result, has come under fire from the press.

Jason Cundy and Trevor Sinclair vented to talkSPORT after the 34-year-old Frenchman let in soft goals against Everton and then Man City last week, the former urged the World Cup winner 'to move on' while the Hammers legend dubbed him 'lettuce wrists.'

Similarly, BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand slaughtered Lloris as an 'embarrassment,' via the Metro.

There is also a case to be made over potentially selling the veteran goalkeeper as this summer will signal him entering the final year of his contract, and the £10.8m-rated star's value will only diminish as he gets closer to his mid-thirties.

Henderson, who enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Sheffield United last season, would be the ideal replacement - even if it'll cost megabucks at £40m.

In 36 league starts for the Blades' maiden PL campaign, the 23-year-old managed 13 clean sheets and only let in 33 goals, via Transfermarkt.

By comparison, Lloris has already leaked 27 goals in 24 appearances and would need to find seven more clean sheets from somewhere to better Henderson's return.

It's no wonder Sander Berge waxed lyrical over the Man Utd loanee, he labelled him "insane," "exceptional," and "confident" in an interview with Norwegian outlet VG in March 2020.

Henderson also helps out Spurs' homegrown problem, having come through the system at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho wasn't able to name Joe Rodon in his squad for the Europa League knockout stages as they had already named the maximum of 17 'foreign' players - even the likes of Eric Dier, Ben Davies, and Matt Doherty fall under this category which only goes to tell you the length of the problem.

Spurs could do with more English talent, and in replacing the struggling Lloris with a homegrown option like Henderson, the north London outfit could certainly kill two birds with one stone this summer.

It may cost them £40m, but a swoop for the 6 foot 2 colossus would be a wise move to make from Mourinho, Levy and co.

AND in other news, why Levy must sanction Spurs summer swoop for “talented” £45m-rated "leader"...
