The January transfer window opens for business on Sunday and Antonio Conte will be able to add to his Tottenham Hotspur squad ahead of the second half of the campaign.

Spurs may want to bolster their roster in order to give themselves the best chance of securing Champions League football for another season and of winning silverware in 2022/23.

One player who is a reported target for the club is Stade Rennais attacker Martin Terrier, who has caught the eye with his performance in Ligue 1 this season.

French outlet Media Foot recently claimed that Spurs and Manchester United have been in contact with the forward's agent ahead of a potential swoop to sign him.

The report stated that both clubs wanted to know the player's intentions and wage expectations, whilst adding that he is likely to end up in the Premier League if he continues to impress in France.

Fabio Paratici and Conte must now ensure that they are able to win the race for the 25-year-old's signature as he would be an upgrade on one of the club's underperforming duds - Lucas Moura.

The Brazilian attacker has failed to produce a single goal contribution in eight Premier League outings this season, averaging a Sofascore rating of 6.62, and the head coach may use January to replace him.

Moura managed two goals and six assists in 34 top-flight appearances during the 2021/22 campaign and his statistics over the last 18 months do not suggest that he has the quality to be an important player for Conte.

Terrier, who can play out wide or through the middle akin to the ex-Paris Saint-Germain man, has plundered eight goals and three assists in 14 Ligue 1 matches this season, averaging a Sofascore rating of 7.55.

European football writer Tim Williams described his style of play as "a-la Thierry Henry" as the gem likes to cut inside onto his right foot from out wide.

He has been lethal in France for Rennais and his Henry-esque performances resulted in him scoring an eye-catching 21 goals in 37 games in the French top-flight in 2021/22, whilst averaging a Sofascore rating of 7.30.

Terrier is also, at the age of 25, five years younger than Moura and this means that he would be a better option for Spurs in the long-term as well as in the short-term, with his statistics indicating that he would be an immediate upgrade on the Brazilian if he can adapt to playing in the Premier League.
