It seems like Tottenham Hotspur are still on a hunt for their Harry Kane alternative. Of course, the big Englishman is and will remain Jose Mourinho's biggest star but the Portuguese gaffer is well aware of the fact a plan B is very much needed.

After numerous reports linking them with the likes of Luis Suarez and even Diego Costa, now talkSPORT are reporting that Spurs are in talks to sign AFC Bournemouth's Josh King.

Of course, this is even more interesting because initially, Mourinho was said to be eyeing Callum Wilson in previous transfer windows but has now seemingly turned his attention to the 28-year-old ace.

King himself has also been heavily linked with Manchester United in January and has also managed to bag six goals and four assists across 26 games played throughout last season.

The same source claims he could offer good support to Kane up front and is likely to want a move away from the Cherries following their relegation from the Premier League.

This, of course, means the club is likely to lose more than just King in the ongoing summer transfer window as other outfits flock in to pick their squad clean.

For Mourinho, however, getting someone in who could potentially push his main star a bit more and be reliable and consistent when needed is a top priority. With King, he could get exactly that.

Verdict

It does feel like a bit of a downgrade for Spurs since they went from being linked with Suarez and Costa to now holding talks with a player who's headed down to the Championship.

But the situation is not so black and white. The 28-year-old is affordable and definitely more attainable than the aforementioned duo. Not to mention that he's used to football in the English top-flight and has managed to do decently well in a largely struggling team.
