According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies are said to have both Spurs and Chelsea on alert having been willing to cash in on the 25-year-old this summer, with the northeast side said to value their prized asset at around £40m.
That valuation was deemed too high by the two London rivals, although it is said that the fleet-footed forward's head has now been turned by the potential higher salaries on offer elsewhere, amid frustration regarding his current contract with the Tynesiders.
The report suggests that Eddie Howe's side are not able to break their existing wage structure to hand a bumper a new deal for the former Nice man, while the need to abide by Financial Fair Play regulations could force them into player sales, with Saint-Maximin arguably one of their most sellable assets.
