Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Youssoufa Moukoko is an ideal signing, according to journalist Dean Jones...

What's the word?

It's believed that Spurs are one of a multitude of clubs to have sent scouts to watch the 18-year-old forward in action for Borussia Dortmund before the World Cup, and the transfer insider has delivered his verdict to GIVEMESPORT.

Speaking about the Germany international, as well as another mooted option in Marcus Thuram, Jones said:

“Yeah, definitely they could both add to what they’ve got. They both make sense in different ways from things I’ve heard about how they intend to move the squad on.”

Moukoko is currently out of contract in the summer, with Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool also keen on signing him.

Spurs' answer to Haaland

The teenage sensation is widely considered to be one of the real stars of the future and is the latest name to emerge from Dortmund's conveyor belt of young talent.

Despite only turning 18 this week, the two-cap international has been in electric form for Dortmund across both the Bundesliga and Champions League this season, having bagged six goals and laid on five assists, including an effort against reigning champions Bayern Munich.

In total, Moukoko has already been well exposed to the men's game, playing a total of 59 times, so he could need little time to adapt to the rigours of the English top-flight.

There can't be many players with a better record at youth level either as he bagged 90 goals across 56 appearances for the U17s, and 51 goals in 32 matches, via Transfermarkt.

For the next few years at least, he could be an outstanding understudy to Harry Kane, who eventually will need replacing and the sooner they find his successor, the better it will be for the man in the dugout.

Manchester City landed their striker for the next era in Erling Haaland, so Moukoko could be Spurs' answer to that and the Norwegian superstar, a former teammate at Signal Iduna Park, is a big admirer.

"I think he’s the biggest talent in the world right now. 16 years and one day, that’s quite amazing. He has a big career ahead of him," Haaland told ESPN (via GOAL) in 2020.

Given the 5 foot 10 gem is following in Haaland's footsteps, there have been plenty of comparisons made between the two but Moukoko is a talent in his own right.

Bundesliga.com have even likened the Dortmund starlet to Lionel Messi, quite the claim but there are some undoubted parallels due to their low centre of gravity, sharp control and ability to spin any towering defender about.

It's no wonder Germany boss Hansi Flick, who named him in his World Cup squad, once dubbed the teenager a "good finisher", whilst his brother Borel has previously labelled him "the wonder."

Some have even tipped the teen to break out in Qatar and given the evidence above, it's easy to see why.

If Spurs want to make their silverware ambitions a reality under Antonio Conte, then the club ought to buy incredible prospects like Moukoko when the opportunity arises to do so.

In the next few years, he could well emerge as the next Haaland, so Tottenham must ensure they win the coveted race for his signature in 2023.
