Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of sealing Adama Traore as their first signing of the January transfer window with a matter of days remaining to complete business...

What's the word?

That is according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, who delivered the exciting update live on air to 'The Transfer Show' earlier in the week.

"Spurs are getting close to signing him for a compromise fee of around £20m," he revealed (via a video on their website).

"Last week they offered £15m, that was rejected, Wolves want about £25m, I think a deal is there to be done for around £20m.

"I think Adama Traore is now getting very, very close."

Matter of time?

Well, it's taken a very long time to happen but it finally seems as if Spurs have finally got their man, having been linked to the Old Gold star for much of the month with contrasting reports emerging in recent days.

Indeed, Spurs saw a £15m bid rejected for Traore last week, with some claiming that the Midlands outfit were holding out for double that at £30m.

However, Sheth claims that a compromise has been reached between those two fees, so that is certainly encouraging news to read, especially if you're Antonio Conte or a Lilywhites supporter.

There's a belief that the Italian head coach can convert the Spain international into a successful wing-back, just as he did with Victor Moses at Chelsea and this time, he's being gifted with a real threat and one that has already experienced the role numerous times.

Traore leads the league for average number of successful dribbles per 90 minutes (seven) and that clearly makes him difficult to defend. An average of 1.5 key passes per 90 also suggests that he's a creative influence in the final third, too. An ideal mix for the perfect wing-back, perhaps?

That combined with his evident physical presence, having been dubbed a "monster" by striker Che Adams of Southampton and a "machine" by BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand makes him a very intriguing signing for Spurs.

All in all, those around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium must be absolutely buzzing by this latest development. We're surely very close to an official announcement now.
