Tottenham Hotspur have a firm interest in Anthony Gordon and are monitoring his situation at Goodison Park...

What's the word?

That's according to football.london reporter Alasdair Gold, who claims that the Everton winger is keen to work under manager Antonio Conte and also suggested that the north London side were keen to sign him in a double deal alongside Richarlison earlier in the summer transfer window.

It's thought that Premier League rivals Chelsea are leading the race for the 21-year-old, though, having seen a £45m bid rejected for him recently.

The Toffees may need to cash in on some of their best talent if they are to raise finances to bolster Frank Lampard's squad in the closing days of the window, even if there is some reluctance from the club and the manager to let someone like Gordon leave.

Manchester United and Newcastle United are also keen on the young Englishman.

Bye-bye Gil?

These links to Gordon could mean that Bryan Gil is heading for the exit door amid interest from Spain.

"I was very clear in the press conference before this game. This squad is this and if someone goes away then another has to come. This has to be very clear for everybody. Otherwise, we stay with this squad and we continue our path with these players, this squad," Conte told reporters in his post-game press conference on Saturday.

"But if someone has to go away, along another must come. This is very clear for me, for the club, but we are totally agreed on this aspect."

With Valencia keen on signing the 21-year-old, who has been compared to Neymar and dubbed a "big talent" by scout Jacek Kulig, it seems plausible that Gordon will be targeted as his replacement and that's a wise decision from the club as he would help fulfil their homegrown quota.

Not to mention his proven experience in the Premier League, where Gil has only featured for 85 minutes of game time across nine appearances.

At the very same age, Gordon has played 52 times in the big time, including four goals and three assists in 40 appearances last season, so he'd be of far greater use to Conte than the Spaniard.

In fact, former Lilywhites shot-stopper has previously suggested that he'd be the "perfect fit for Spurs".

Indeed, he's right up Conte's street too, having ranked inside the top 1% of his positional peers across Europe for blocks (2.15), the top 4% for tackles (2.33) and the top 7% for pressures (22.46) per 90, via FBref, which highlights the sort of intense and busy work rate that the Italian loves in a player.

Also lauded as "fearless" by BBC Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer, it's thought that Gordon could command £50m but English talent these days does come at a premium.

Although he could be worth every penny, given the evidence above as he's not just the ideal player for Conte but one that would help the club's registration quota immensely.
