Spurs close in on Dejan Kulusevski after Luis Diaz blow

Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the signing of Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus in what will be their first signing of the January transfer window…

What’s the word?

With less than 48 hours remaining, it appears as if the north Londoners are finally about to get a deal over the line as the Sweden international is on the verge of making an initial loan switch from Turin.

“Dejan Kulusevski to Tottenham, here we go! He’ll fly to London today. Total agreement reached with Juventus,” revealed Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano to Twitter.

“Deal will be around €40m plus add ons – including loan fee and buy clause that could become mandatory in case of UCL qualification/certain number of appearances.”

Will Kulusevski prove to be good business for Spurs?

Forget Luis Diaz

This will come as a huge source of encouragement to manager Antonio Conte, especially after the club missed out on one of their top targets this window in FC Porto star Luis Diaz.

As per reports in Portugal, the Colombian winger favoured a move to Liverpool over the Lilywhites, who also saw a £45m bid rejected in the last few days.

However, none of that matters anymore as sporting director Fabio Paratici is about to hand his manager a familiar figure in Kulusevski.

The Italian supremo was the man to bring the 21-year-old to the Allianz Stadium in 2020 – during his maiden campaign at the club, he delivered 14 direct goal contributions across 47 appearances, whilst featuring in as many as seven different roles.

A truly wasted talent...

That versatility will be hugely appealing to Conte, who could deploy him as a winger, an inside forward, a no.10 and upfront.

He has since found game time hard to come by under the new management at the Old Lady but his debut season earned high praise indeed from those around him, including former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, who dubbed him a “great talent.”

Italian football expert Conor Clancy has also recently described the £27m-rated dynamo as a “phenomenal talent” who “gives opposing defences nightmares” to GIVEMESPORT – another glowing endorsement that should leave both Conte and the fanbase excited ahead of his arrival.

AND in other news, Talks opened: Conte could form frightening Spurs unit by signing £40.5m-rated “beast”
