Tottenham Hotspur are struggling to offload Tanguy Ndombele less than a month before the start of the new Premier League season...

What's the word?

That is according to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has delivered a recent update on the Frenchman's future in north London. He told Caught Offside:

"For Ndombele there is still no imminent solution. His agents are talking to more clubs but with no advanced negotiations yet," he claimed.

The 25-year-old did not travel to South Korea for Spurs' pre-season training camp in a bid to resolve his immediate future but it appears as if the Lilywhites are going to be left frustrated as no one is keen to take him on.

Conte and Levy will be fuming

This update will surely leave both manager Antonio Conte and chairman Daniel Levy reeling.

Ndombele cost a club-record £55m from Lyon back in the summer of 2019 and has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular under every manager since.

Signed under Mauricio Pochettino, the Frenchman struggled to make a mark with Jose Mourinho at the helm, or under Nuno Santo either. It took until the arrival of the Italian in the dugout for something to happen after he was shipped out on loan back to his former Ligue 1 outfit.

It's a rather telling sign that they were not prepared to make it permanent, instead opting for the free-agent addition of injury-prone Corentin Tolisso.

Given he is also earning a squad-high £200k-per-week, the £27m-rated midfielder is burning a big hole in the pockets of the Lilywhites hierarchy.

There is evidently no future for him at Hotspur Way, so he's only going to waste further funds in a summer where Spurs have bolstered the squad with five new additions.

One of those was bringing in Yves Bissouma from Brighton and Hove Albion, so his place in the pecking order is even lower than it was prior to his loan departure.

Romano suggests that there is no imminent solution, even despite his agents talking with clubs, so it appears as if Ndombele is at a career crossroads right now.

Ndombele lingering around the squad this season is a recipe for disaster, so the club needs to find a solution at all costs. For the time being, though, neither Conte nor Levy will be happy with the situation.
