Tottenham Hotspur appear to be closing in on the appointment of their next manager.

According to The Guardian's Fabrizio Romano, the north London outfit are in advanced negotiations with Paulo Fonseca, who was recently replaced by Jose Mourinho at AS Roma.

It's thought that the 48-year-old is the ideal candidate for incoming sporting director Fabio Paratici, with a three-year deal is potentially on the table.

Both the Italian and Daniel Levy will need to back their next manager in the transfer market if the club is to get back on track, but how might Spurs look under Fonseca, assuming he is given the reins?

We'll begin with the potential incomings in N17 first.

It is no secret that Spurs desire not just one but two central defenders, and the arrival of Paratici could see him bring a Juventus player with him.

Italian veteran Leonardo Bonucci has been linked with a move to north London, as a result of his former sporting director swapping Turin for the English capital. He has been backed to add "a bit of steel" to Spurs' backline and would be a fine addition to Fonseca's three-man defence, in which Sergio Reguilon and Matt Doherty could thrive as wing-backs.

Another name heavily mooted with Tottenham is impressive Fulham loanee Joachim Andersen, who Lyon are expected to sell for around £25m this summer. The Danish beast's fine form elsewhere in London has attracted the Spurs hierarchy and he is said to be a 'top target' by Romano.

They could be joined by the experienced Toby Alderweireld and Hugo Lloris at the back, and there should be no place for Eric Dier or Davinson Sanchez, both of whom have come under heavy criticism for poor performances in recent months.

There have also been reports in Italy suggesting that Fonseca would look to raid his former club, in which central midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini features. He could be an ideal partner for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the engine room, with the futures of Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko and Dele Alli up in the air.

It means that Tanguy Ndombele could play slightly further forward, and his creative exploits could hugely benefit a front two of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

Spurs' predicted XI under Fonseca: Lloris; Reguilon, Alderweireld, Bonucci, Andersen, Doherty; Hojbjerg, Pellegrini, Ndombele; Son, Kane.
