Tottenham Hotspur may be hesitant on a move for Sporting wing-back Pedro Porro as Antonio Conte is concerned about his physical profile, journalist Dan Kilpatrick has claimed.

What's the word?

Spurs have been linked with a move for Porro, as their current right-wing-back options have all disappointed.

Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty have been well below par, whilst Djed Spence has barely been given an opportunity since his arrival in the summer.

Porro has excelled in Lisbon and has a reported release clause of around £40m, but Spurs could be having second thoughts on a deal, and Conte is playing a big part in this saga.

Speaking on the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Evening Standard journalist Kilpatrick claimed that Conte is concerned that the Spaniard is not physical enough for his style of play.

He said: "I had heard Conte has concerns that Porro might be a bit slight, I think that's been reported elsewhere.

"He likes his wing-backs to be physical players. It's no secret that he liked the idea of converting Adama Traore, for instance, to the role a year ago, so that gives you an idea of maybe the kind of profile that he's looking for there.

"So it may well be that there's also a sense that not everyone is completely sold on Porro."

Conte's future needs to be decided

We feel Spurs cannot make decisions on big-money transfers whilst the uncertainty around Conte remains.

The Italian's contract runs out at the end of the season and there has been constant speculation over whether he will stay at the club beyond the end of the campaign.

Given that he often operates with a rigid structure, constantly setting up with a back three and attacking wing-backs, as a specialist wing-back, Porro could fit into a Conte side, but if the manager leaves, his successor may prefer a different style.

If Conte commits his future to the club, however, signing Porro would appear to be a no-brainer, but if he were to leave, spending £40m on a player who may not be useful within a year is a very risky move, and the sooner Conte's future is decided, the better for Spurs.
