Spurs: Fabrizio Romano claims Harry Kane has not held talks over exit

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has not held any preliminary talks with any other clubs over a potential move in the summer.

What’s the latest?

There have been conflicting reports of late surrounding the future of the England captain in north London with his contract winding down close to its final year.

Club insider Paul O’Keefe recently said on Twitter that the 29-year-old was not engaging in talks over a possible contract extension and he wouldn’t be denied a move this summer.

However, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has since reported Kane would actually be open to signing a new deal with Spurs and talks will begin next month.

Who scored Tottenham's first goal of 2022?

And speaking on his YouTube channel, journalist Fabrizio Romano has now claimed the Englishman has not held any talks over a possible exit in the summer:

“From what I’m told, they [Manchester United] had no direct contact with Harry Kane’s camp. For sure, they appreciate Kane.”

He later added: “For sure, Tottenham will offer him again a new contract and it will be up to Kane, but there will be conversations and Daniel Levy will push to keep Harry Kane at the club, so this is a really important part of this story.”

Future still uncertain

There have certainly been conflicting reports over the last couple of weeks surrounding the future of Harry Kane with some suggesting there are clubs seriously interested in taking him in the summer.

It is believed one of those interested clubs is Manchester United with the Red Devils potentially offering Kane a new club whilst still being able to chase Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goal record.

And it is also suggested Bayern Munich are still optimistic about their chances of rising Kane away from England and offering him an opportunity in the Bundesliga.

Do you expect Kane to leave in the summer?

No

However, Monday night’s victory over Fulham showed just how crucial the 29-year-old is to Spurs on a number of fronts.

The game at Craven Cottage was a hard-fought victory for Antonio Conte’s men with the only goal of the night coming from the right foot of their talisman.

That was the only thing separating the two sides on the night but it was a huge goal in Kane’s career as he equalled Jimmy Greaves’ record of 266 goals for the Lilywhites.

Despite being on the horizon of turning 30 in a matter of months’ time, Kane is showing no signs of slowing down and has made one of the best starts to a Premier League season in his career.

If it wasn’t for Erling Haaland’s incredible return, Kane would have pulled clear at the top of the scoring charts this season and there would likely be a lot more praise directed towards the England captain.

Having almost equalled his tally from last season in 16 games fewer, Kane’s form has been crucial to Spurs campaign with the likes of Son Heung-min not showing any threat in front of goal.

However, this form will surely only increase the interest in Kane ahead of the summer but Ornstein’s report and Romano’s comments may just provide fans with some optimism he may extend his stay in N17.
