Spurs: Lilywhites confident Harry Kane will ink new deal

Tottenham Hotspur remain confident they can get Harry Kane to put pen to paper on a new and improved deal to extend his stay in north London.

What’s the latest?

The future of Tottenham’s star man is seemingly hanging in the balance at the moment with the Lilywhites enduring a torrid run of form under Antonio Conte.

In their last nine games in the Premier League, Spurs have only been able to pick up three wins and have lost the other six which has seen them fall out of the top four.

And with Kane’s contract now in its final 18 months, there have been reports that the England captain is not entertaining any discussions over extending his deal, currently.

However, speaking on the Talking Transfers podcast, insider Graeme Bailey has suggested the Lilywhites are saying they are still confident Kane will sign a new deal:

“It’s a really interesting situation with Harry Kane. And obviously, the line we’re getting from Tottenham is they want him to sign a new contract. They’re fairly confident from what we’re garnering from that end.”

In the balance

With this summer, currently, one of the last opportunities Daniel Levy would be able to cash in on Kane, there have been suggestions that there are already clubs sniffing around the 29-year-old.

One of those clubs mentioned has been Bayern Munich with the Bundesliga side believed to be confident on being able to prise the Englishman away from the Premier League.

And within the Premier League, there is a belief that Manchester United could potentially look to make a move for Kane in the summer.

Can Kane win silverware whilst at Spurs?

It will be interesting to see how this saga pans out with a lot potentially riding on the second half of the season from Spurs as they battle with the Red Devils for a spot in the top four.

As he nears the age of 30 this summer, another trophyless season for the Lilywhites could be damning for the future of their star man in north London.

And as Conte’s future continues to leave many questioning whether he will even see out the end of the season, never mind signing a new deal himself, it doesn’t leave Spurs with a huge deal of optimism for the future.

Spurs are yet to open their purse in the January window and with the Lilywhites slipping behind in the race for a spot in next season’s Champions League, it could leave Kane seriously wondering what reason he has to stay at Spurs.
