Tottenham Hotspur's long-standing interest in the Roma midfielder, Nicolo Zaniolo, still remains despite adding Arnaut Danjuma to their squad earlier in the week.

What's the latest?

On Wednesday, the north London club finally saw their first arrival of the January transfer window come through the doors in the loan signing of Danjuma.

However, this came amid speculation suggesting the Lilywhites were looking into the possibility of adding the attacking midfielder, Zaniolo, to their squad.

It is believed Spurs have held a long-standing interest in the Italian with Roma previously refusing to allow him to leave for Spurs back in the summer window.

And speaking on Chris Cowlin's YouTube channel, journalist Sami Mokbel has suggested the signing of Danjuma has not necessarily seen that interest go away:

(15:00) "Nicolo Zaniolo has been a player that's constantly been linked with Tottenham over the past kind of 18 months, it sounds like. He was definitely one that they looked at. I think that the interest is still there.

"I do know for a fact that Bournemouth have kind of made their move for Zaniolo."

A potential opportunity

Fabrizio Romano has already hinted that Spurs could be one of the clubs to watch in the final days of the window with the journalist suggesting Fabio Paratici is looking for potential opportunities to emerge on the market.

And it is apparent Zaniolo, who is sponsored by Nike, is a player who could be on the move this month with the likes of AC Milan also believed to be chasing the player.

However, a shock candidate may have also emerged as a possible landing spot for the 23-year-old in Bournemouth.

And with this in mind, we do wonder whether Paratici could look to pull off another hijack - as he did he Danjuma - if the Cherries are to close in on the Italian.

Just as Everton thought they had sealed the deal to bring Danjuma to Goodison Park, Spurs came in at the 11th hour to snatch him away.

This could potentially be an option for Spurs if Zaniolo is to seek what would be a sensational move to the south coast as the Lilywhites would surely hold an advantage over the struggling Cherries.

If Zaniolo, who has been hailed as a "lethal playmaker" by Zach Lowry, is to head for the exit door this month, and his options are Bournemouth or Spurs, you would imagine the lure of Champions League football would be enough to persuade him even if he is not to play every week.

Antonio Conte has already voiced his frustrations with Tottenham's lack of creativity this season and the Italian could well be viewed as an opportunity to change that.
