Tottenham Hotspur are expected to push again to land a potential deal for the Sporting CP right wing-back Pedro Porro, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Lilywhites have been trying for the majority of the month now to land the Spanish wing-back but have been repeatedly told the same answer by Sporting.
Spurs are believed to have submitted a bid for Porro last week which included a cash offer of around £30m plus a player from their current squad.
However, Sporting replied to that offer as they have done all month with the suggestion Spurs need to pay his release clause or walk away from a deal.
Despite this, speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano expects the north London club to push again in the coming days for the 23-year-old:
“It’s also important to mention Pedro Porro the Sporting right-back because I always told you he’s top priority for Tottenham and he remains top priority. Tottenham will try again.”
It does feel like a similarly frustrating transfer window as last January for Tottenham and Antonio Conte with it looking as if the Lilywhites are going to go into the final days of the window looking to make their first signings.
Looking back at last January’s dealings, there can be no complaints made over who Spurs brought in with Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur proving top-quality signings.
However, there can be a lot of criticism of the way the club operates in these short winter windows.
Spurs fans and Antonio Conte were made to wait until the final day of the window last year to see the pair arrive from Juventus and it does feel this window could offer similar.
Although no one will expect Spurs to spend the money Chelsea does, the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and even Manchester United have all delved into the market and brought in some additions.
It must be difficult for Spurs fans to understand what goes on between the summer and winter market when they are now three weeks into the window and still waiting on their first signing.
After a poor run of results before the window, it was apparent Spurs needed some improvements and still, it feels as if the likes of Fabio Paratici have entered the window unprepared.
Pedro Porro is clearly one of their top priorities this month with the north London side having chased him from the beginning.
However, the situation feels to be the same with Spurs unwilling to match Sporting’s demands.
And if that is the case then perhaps it is time to move on and look at other options as time is certainly not on Tottenham’s side with just over one week remaining.
