Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a major boost in their bid to bring Nicolo Zaniolo to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the January transfer window.

What's the talk?

That's according to a report by Italian publication Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), who claim that, following Jose Mourinho's surprising suggestion that the 22-year-old forward may benefit from a move away from Serie A, Spurs could look to reignite their summer interest in the player by capitalising on the AS Roma manager's apparent willingness to sell the Italy international this winter.

The report goes on to state that both Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici are big fans of the winger who would cost around €70m (£60m), so much so that the 52-year-old would reportedly love to add the youngster to his current Tottenham Hotspur squad.

Zaniolo would transform Spurs

While it is true that Zaniolo has been far from his best for Roma this season, it is nevertheless undeniable that the 22-year-old would be a magnificent signing for Paratici to get over the line in the January transfer window.

Indeed, the attacker proved his ability during his 26 Serie A appearances back in 2019/20, a season in which the £36m-rated man scored six goals, registered two assists and created a whopping nine big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 1.8 shots and making 0.9 key passes per game.

These returns saw the player who Daniele De Rossi dubbed an "incredible" talent earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.82, playing a key role in his side securing fifth place in the Italian top flight.

The £75k-per-week forward also impressed over his seven appearances in the Europa League that season, scoring two goals, providing two assists and creating one big chance, metrics which saw the Italian average a SofaScore match rating of 7.16.

Furthermore, reports during Conte's tenure at Inter Milan claimed that the 52-year-old manager was extremely keen on resigning Zaniolo for I Nerazzurri, while the player himself also suggested he would like to play under the Spurs boss, stating: "Maybe for a coach like him I would play in a 3-5-2, I think I would."

As such, considering just how keen Conte appears to be on Zaniolo, in addition to the 22-year-old's abundance of potential, it would indeed seem wise for Paratici to do all he can to secure a deal for the winger this winter, as his signing would undoubtedly help to start the revolution of Conte's Tottenham squad.
