Alasdair Gold has dropped an update on the future of reported Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Christian Eriksen.

What's the word?

Transfer Focus

In a recent post on Twitter, the football.london journalist revealed that, despite Fabio Paratici having made contact with the attacking midfielder's representatives two weeks ago, the Italian sporting director is yet to follow up these initial discussions concerning a return to north London with the Denmark international's camp.

Gold went on to state in his supporting article for football.london that, despite Spurs' continuous links with a move for the former Inter Milan playmaker this summer, those within the club are now distancing themselves from any talks involving a move to bring Eriksen back to the club in what is a rather big twist to the story.

In his tweet, Gold said: "Here's the latest update on the Christian Eriksen situation for you. Understand Spurs were last in contact with his camp two weeks ago but have not followed that up since."

Supporters will be gutted

Aside from the romantic element of Eriksen making a return to Tottenham this summer, considering just how impressive the Dane was for Brentford upon his move back to England in January, Gold's claim that Paratici is now moving away from the idea of resigning the 30-year-old ahead of 2022/23 is sure to have left supporters gutted.

Indeed, over his 11 Premier League appearances for Thomas Frank's side in 2021/22, the £18m-rated midfielder was in astonishing form, scoring one goal, registering four assists and creating five big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 2.0 shots, making 2.8 key passes and completing 0.7 dribbles per game.

These returns saw the £23k-per-week talent average a rather breathtaking SofaScore match rating of 7.54, not only ranking him as Brentford's best performer in the league but also as the third-best player in the division as a whole.

As such, it is clear to see that Eriksen very much still possesses the ability to play a starring role for a Premier League club, leading us to believe that Gold's latest update on Spurs' potential move for the midfielder is sure to be one that will devastate the Tottenham Hotspur faithful.
