Spurs: Fabio Paratici makes Clement Lenglet offer

Tottenham Hotspur have made a move to bring Clement Lenglet to the Premier League this summer.

What’s the talk?

Transfer Focus

That’s according to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness), who claim that Fabio Paratici has now submitted a two-year loan offer to Barcelona regarding the centre-back, although the sporting director’s desire for the LaLiga side to foot some of the defender’s £170k-per-week wage is believed to be something of a stumbling block in talks.

The report goes on to state that Olympique de Marseille have also made an offer for the 27-year-old, with the Ligue 1 outfit hoping to land the France international on a permanent deal, however, they too are demanding that Barca pay some of the defender’s wage in order to make the transfer possible.

Conte will be buzzing

With the signing of a left-footed centre-back reported to be one of Antonio Conte’s priority targets in the summer transfer window, it is easy to see why Paratici is keen to make Lenglet the fourth new arrival at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ahead of the club’s 2022/23 campaign.

While the 27-year-old is not exactly the most glamourous centre-back Spurs have been linked with this summer, it is undeniable that the £26m-rated talent very much fits Conte’s brief to add a ball-playing left-footer to his options on the left of his defensive trio at Spurs.

Indeed, according to FBref data, the Frenchman ranks in the top 1% of centre-backs in Europe’s big five leagues for passes attempted per 90, as well as the top 1% for progressive passes, the top 1% for progressive carries, the top 18% for passes completed and the top 6% for assists over the past 12 months.

Furthermore, the former Sevilla star also ranks in the top 15% for defensive pressures per 90, in addition to the top 39% for tackles and the top 43% for aerial duels won over the last 365 days.

How well do you know Spurs manager Antonio Conte? Question 1. During his playing days, in which position did Conte typically operate?

As such, while a player such as 23-year-old Alessandro Bastoni or 20-year-old Josko Gvardiol – both of whom Spurs have been linked with this summer – would certainly be a better long-term prospect for Paratici to invest in, with both players possessing extremely large asking prices, Lenglet could just prove to be the perfect short-term solution for Conte – with the fact that a bid has been made for the 27-year-old sure to have left the Italian buzzing.
