Spurs: Stefano Benzi drops Stefan de Vrij update

Stefano Benzi has dropped an update on the reported Tottenham Hotspur summer transfer target Stefan de Vrij.

What’s the talk?

Transfer Focus

In recent comments made on CMIT TV (via Sport Witness), the Italian journalist revealed that, following numerous reports linking De Vrij with a move to Spurs at the end of the season, Antonio Conte’s side are indeed interested in a deal for the Inter Milan centre-back, and are willing to offer €40m (£34m) for the 30-year-old’s services.

Concerning the north London side’s interest in the Netherlands international, Benzi said: “There is a very serious interest on the part of both [Manchester] City and Tottenham for De Vrij and they are willing to spend an important figure: €40m.”

Conte would love him

Considering how impressive De Vrij was in the heart of Conte’s Inter defence last season, it is clear to see why the 52-year-old would be keen to work with the defender once again at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Do you think De Vrij would be a good signing for £34m?

Indeed, over his 32 Serie A appearances last term, the £31.5m-rated centre-back played a crucial role in the Nerazzurri’s title-winning campaign, helping his side keep 11 clean sheets, scoring one goal and registering one assist, as well as making an average of 1.3 interceptions, 0.9 tackles, 2.9 clearances and winning 3.3 duels – at a success rate of 60% – per game.

These returns saw the £116k-per-week Dutchman who former Lazio defender Mauricio dubbed a “monster” average an extremely impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.03, ranking him as Inter’s tenth-best player in the Italian top flight.

As such, with it being reported that Fabio Paratici will be prioritising the signing of a left-sided centre-back ahead of Tottenham’s 2022/23 campaign, it is easy to understand why the Premier League side are being linked with a move for De Vrij this summer.

A truly wasted talent...

Indeed, the 30-year-old boasts a great number of the traits Conte looks for in a defender, leading us to believe that, should Spurs’ sporting director manage to beat City to the £34m signing of the 55-time capped international this summer, it is an arrival that the 52-year-old manager would very much love.

AND in other news: Paratici set for Spurs catastrophe on “one-man wrecking machine”, Conte would be livid
