Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy was forced to intervene on Monday in the proposed deal for Pedro Porro to help push it closer to completion.

What's the latest?

Spurs are believed to have identified the Spanish right wing-back as their priority signing this month from Sporting CP with Antonio Conte seeking an upgrade in that position.

However, it has not been an easy deal for the Lilywhites to negotiate with the Portuguese outfit playing hardball for weeks suggesting they'd only accept his release clause.

But over the weekend, it was believed Spurs had reached an agreement with Sporting only for that to fall apart by Monday morning.

It is now expected the player is set to sign for Spurs and speaking on Chris Cowlin's YouTube channel, journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed Levy may have played a big role in the negotiations:

(2:30) "From what I understand Daniel Levy is involved as well and there's a huge amount of irritation because Tottenham did feel that it was a done deal. They booked a medical that should have already taken place."

Levy seeing it over the line

There will have been a lot of frustration coming out of the Spurs fanbase on Monday morning after the deal was reported as "off" by David Ornstein.

However, it does appear Levy has been able to revive the deal for the wing-back with Jacobs suggesting the chairman was forced to interject to try and bring the player to N17.

This comes at a time when tension between the fans and the board is high with chants from the stands clearly heard directed at Levy and the ENIC ownership.

Although there will potentially still be some frustration it has taken until deadline day to potentially see this deal over the line, we do think the Spurs chairman deserves some credit for getting it done.

Porro is now believed to have travelled to north London via private jet in the early hours of Tuesday morning with his flight landing at Luton airport around 3:00am.

And with his medical and final paperwork to complete ahead of the deadline, it will have likely been an early wake-up call for the Spaniard this morning.

But it seems as if Spurs are close to completing their priority signing this month and it does appear as if Levy may have played a significant role in the deal.
