Tottenham Hotspur have made a move to bring Stefan de Vrij to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer transfer window.

What's the talk?

That's according to a report by FC Inter News (via Sport Witness), who claim that, despite Inter Milan and the centre-back having agreed in principle upon a €4.5m-per-year (£3.8m-per-year) contract running until the summer of 2025, due to the Serie A side's financial difficulties, Mino Raiola has been sounding out interest in the 30-year-old.

The report goes on to state that one club interested in a move for the Netherlands international is Antonio Conte's Spurs, who are said to have been the most convincing of all the teams to make an approach to the defender's agent, with the 52-year-old manager believed to be more than willing to sanction a swoop for his former player this summer.

Finally, it is claimed that Barcelona are also keeping tabs on the situation of the centre-back ahead of a potential move at the end of the current campaign, while Inter would be willing to part with the 6'2 defender - as long as they were to receive a figure in the region of €30m (£25m) for the 30-year-old.

Forget Rudiger

With it being recently reported that Tottenham have been priced out a move for Chelsea's Antonio Rudiger this summer, should a situation unfold in which Inter fail to put pen to paper on De Vrij's proposed contract extension, the Dutchman would very much appear to be something of a dream alternative to the German centre-back - especially if he is available for a fee of just £25m.

Indeed, the £40.5m-rated defender was an influential part of Conte's Scudetto-winning side over his 32 Serie A appearances last season, helping the Nerazzurri keep 11 clean sheets and scoring one goal, as well as making an average of 1.3 interceptions, 0.9 tackles, 2.9 clearances, 57.4 passes and winning 3.3 duels - at a success rate of 60% - per game.

These returns saw the player Mauricio claimed is a "monster" who "deserves to be at a big club" earn a quite extraordinary seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.03, ranking him as Inter's 10th-best player last time out.

As such, considering Conte's history of success with De Vrij, in addition to the 30-year-old appearing to be happy with a contract worth £73k-a-week in comparison to Rudiger's reported £300k-per-week demands, it would very much appear as if Fabio Paratici could land the 52-year-old Spurs manager's dream alternative to the Chelsea centre-back with a swoop for the Inter colossus this summer.
