Say what you want about Chelsea's loan system, it has yielded results. Whether that be cash in the bank for players to have played very few games for the club or first-team experience to ease them into the senior set-up, there have been success stories in west London.

And it seems there might well be another, with Andreas Christensen set to return to Stamford Bridge this summer after two seasons on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach. The Denmark international has been heavily aligned with a Chelsea comeback in recent times with BT having reported that the Blues want him back, and this has been followed by Gladbach’s sporting director, Max Eberl, confessing to Kicker (via Goal) that his side will lose the 20-year-old centre-back in a few months’ time:

“He must go back to Chelsea.

“Those are the two players [Dahoud and Christensen] that we have to replace in the summer.

“There are no others.”

Christensen has really impressed this season, so the Bundesliga side’s loss will be Chelsea’s gain…

As the numbers show, Christensen has showed a level of performance beyond his tender years, with his 82 clearances, 57 aerial duels won, 52 interceptions and 29 tackles won in 21 BuLi outings truly noteworthy. He’s also managed to complete 89% of his passes, showing a good level of technical proficiency, although two defensive errors raise concerns.
