Southampton's Premier League standing this season hasn't looked particularly great, and they also suffered an early exit from the Europa League, but the Saints will be pleased with their progress after a heart-breaking defeat in the League Cup final.

Claude Puel's debut season in charge leaves plenty of room for improvement but the Saints have the squad to succeed and summer additions will help the Saints fight back into the top-end of the Premier League table and perhaps force themselves back into European football.

The defence will also need bolstering, with Jose Fonte having left in January and huge question marks hanging over Virgil Van Dijk, and reports state they're keen on Leeds United centre-half Pontus Jansson.

Swedish defender Jansson has impressed in his inaugural season in English football and his stats certainly suggest he'd be able to excel in the Premier League.

In 26 appearances this season, Jansson has proved to be a thorn in the side of Championship attackers by making 27 tackles, winning 74 aerial duels and claiming 37 interceptions- all whilst making no defensive errors and conceding just 13 fouls.

On top of that, Jansson has shown calm and control on the ball with an 85% passing accuracy and the 26-year-old would fit in nicely to Claude Puel's side.
