After remaining silent throughout the January transfer window, Chelsea have finally sprung into life and are looking to sign Sead Kolasinac from Schalke to bolster their defensive ranks- a decision likely made due to Branislav Ivanovic’s imminent switch to Zenit St Petersburg.
The versatile 23-year-old Bosnian international has attracted interest from Juventus and Sevilla this month but neither have managed to secure a deal. Whilst a pre-contractual agreement could be reached by any of the three mentioned parties, as Kolasinac is out of contract in the summer, a £5m fee could seal a deal tomorrow.
With John Terry’s future at Chelsea also coming to an end, likely at the end of the season, and Gary Cahill’s future also under scrutiny, moving for young Kolasinac could prove to be a very smart coup.
Chelsea are not believed to be fighting any German sides for Kolasinac’s signature so every interested club is in the same boat. If they miss out on his services tomorrow, a deal could be made with Kolasinac that would see him move on a free this summer.
Juventus were previously believed to be favourites for the Bosnian and they too have an ageing defensive-line, whilst Sevilla present an intriguing option as the Andalusian side have excelled this season to battle Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona for the La Liga crown.
