According to Exeter City’s official website, Chelsea have completed the signing of 16-year-old City starlet Ethan Ampadu and the two clubs are negotiating a fee for the teenager.
Because of his age and the fact that he had yet to sign scholarship forms for the League Two outfit, there is no transfer fee for the Welshman as he was free to talk to other clubs.
The deal could prove to be something of a coup for the Blues considering Ampadu made 13 appearances for the Grecians last term, while he was named in the full Wales squad for their 2018 World Cup qualifier against Serbia in May – although he didn’t win his first cap.
Chelsea supporters were quick to have their say on the signing via social media but they were far from happy, with some describing their summer transfer business so far as “underwhelming”, while others don’t understand why they are signing a young player that may never play for the first team if the past is anything to go by.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Sign on the dotted line lad and get yourself to Gatwick. Next plane to Arnhem leaves in an hour

They are signing the player who probably will never play for the first team.

Not happy. I thought we were a top club? Why do we have players and dealings with small teams I've never heard of. Worrying.
