Leeds United will have to pay £5m to sign their former captain from Norwich City, according to the Daily Mail.

What's the word?

Thomas Christiansen is shaping his squad for the upcoming Championship season and it is believed that a swoop for the club's former captain could be on the cards.

Howson is a product of the Whites' academy, but he ended his 15-year association with the club when he joined Norwich in 2012.

The Daily Mail reports that the Canaries could be open to selling the midfielder, but only for offers in excess of £5m.

Howson made 39 appearances and scored six goals as well as produced eight assists in all competitions last season.

Is he worth £5m?

While it could be a romantic return to Elland Road for Howson, Leeds do not want to pay over the odds.

Nowadays, the prices in football are ludicrous, so £5m for a central midfielder on the wider scale may not see excessive.

However, at Championship level and considering that Howson will enter his 30s next year, the price is too steep.

Leeds do have issues in midfield, and they have begun to be addressed by the new head coach after he brought in Mateusz Klich from FC Twente last week.

Howson is a decent option for the Whites, but when it comes to the financial aspects of the deal, they need to think with their heads rather than their hearts.
