In an interview with Voetbal Nieuws, former Anderlecht manager Aad de Moss has claimed that the club’s 21-year-old midfielder Leander Dendoncker would be a good signing for Premier League clubs, Southampton and Everton.
Well, while Youri Tielemans is getting a lot of attention for his performances in the middle of the park for the Belgian side, De Moss believes that Dendoncker could also be ready for a move away to a bigger club this summer.
The defensively-minded player has made 40 appearances in all competitions for Anderlecht this season, and he has been a key part of the side that is currently only behind the Belgian league leaders Club Brugge on goal difference.
De Moss told Voetbal Nieuws: “Dendoncker has so much: a good kicking technique, good attitude, recovery power.
“He is less elegant and spectacular than Tielemans, but I can see him depart for a large amount. At clubs like Dortmund, Sevilla, Valencia, Everton, Southampton he certainly can bring something.”
While Dendoncker would certainly appear to be a good option to slot in alongside the more aggressive Oriol Romeu in the centre of the Saints midfield, a move to Everton would seem less certain.
Ironically, the 21-year-old appears to be of a similar style to the Toffees’ January transfer window addition and former Saints man Morgan Schneiderlin, and with Idrissa Gueye also impressing in his debut season in front of the back four at Goodison Park, it remains to be seen where he would fit in if he did make the switch to Merseyside.
The highly-rated midfielder is valued at £8.5m by Transfermarkt, and if he was to cost in that region – or even a little bit more – he would certainly fit into the price range of both clubs.
