As reported by The Daily Record, Rangers striker Joe Garner could be set for a switch back to familiar surroundings with Preston North End hoping to bring the player back to the club just 12 months after selling him.

What's the story?

Rangers face a big summer of rebuilding both in terms of players coming in and players going out and the speculation surrounding the future of a number of first team stars is ramping up.

The Daily Record reckon Preston North End are set to offer £500,000 to bring Joe Garner back to Deepdale, less than a third of the £1.8m Rangers paid for him just last year.

While that represents a significant loss on the deal all in all, attracting that kind of fee could end up being a good thing for the Light Blues, who need resources to bring the targets Pedro Caixinha has identified to bring them to the next level.

Good business?

On the face of it, making a £1.3m loss on a player in just 12 months is poor business but in the context of the current situation at Ibrox, getting a fee for a player who hasn't had a great season may well be worth pursuing for Rangers.

Caixinha can't be laboured with talent he doesn't fancy based on the sins of his predecessor, who sanctioned the big money move for Garner in the first place.

The 29-year-old has scored just 10 goals in Rangers colours this season and has failed to put in meaningful performances in their biggest matches. His discipline has been an issue too having received nine yellow cards, almost as many goals as he has scored and more cards than anyone else in the Rangers squad.

Allowing the Ibrox boss to move on and bring in players of his own is the way forward at the club and if that means making a loss on players signed last summer, then it could be a price worth paying.
