As reported in an exclusive by The Daily Express, Manchester United are set to make a big move for one of their former players; Burnley defender Michael Keane.

What's the story?

Keane has had an excellent season in a Burnley shirt and that's attracted the attention of many Premier League clubs but it appears United could be about to beat them all to his signature.

The Express reckon the club are ready to utilise good relations with Burnley to buy the defender for between £15m and £20m due to various clauses and agreements between the two sides made when Keane initially joined the Clarets for £3m in 2015.

Worth the cash?

Manchester United are of course no strangers to shelling out for former youth prospects having paid mega-money for former academy player Paul Pogba last year.

While the money talked about with regards to Michael Keane is nowhere near that level, it’s still not a good look to so regularly back pedal on players you initially had on your books.

However, having recently made his England debut, Keane’s stock has never been higher and at the age of just 24 has plenty of time left to become an icon at Old Trafford.

In that respect the reported £20m isn’t too large a fee, especially as he has shown impressive consistency in the Premier League for Burnley. He’s made over 100 appearances for the club and has been one of their top performers this season.

Finally putting their faith in the Englishman could pay off big for Jose Mourinho, despite paying way more than they let him go for.
