As reported by Spanish outlet Don Balon, Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez is the subject of significant interest from reigning UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid.

What's the story?

Speculation has been rife about the future of Alexis Sanchez at the Emirates for months but his situation is finally coming to a head with less than a year left on his contract at the Emirates.

Don Balon report that Real Madrid are looking to take advantage of the situation with club president Florentino Perez even letting Sanchez's representatives know they're interested in a cut-price January.

The outlet reckon the Chilean international is keen on a return to La Liga, especially if Real Madrid is his destination.

While losing Sanchez would of course be a big blow, it may be preferably for the Gunners to see him move abroad rather than to one of their English Premier League rivals.

Good enough for Madrid?

A fit, motivated and happy Alexis Sanchez is good enough for pretty much every team in the world and that includes the ever-impressive Madrid, even taking into account the talent they already have at the club.

He'll find competition for places in Zinedine Zidane's attack tough, but he has the quality and the end product to become an important performer again in La Liga after his three year spell at Barcelona.

He scored 47 goals and assists 36 more for Barca in 141 games. Since leaving the Nou Camp he's hardly slowed done either, with a massive 73 goals and 42 assists for Arsenal in 148 matches.

At 28 years of age and coming into his prime, he could recreate that form at Real Madrid and turn them into an even more formidable force.
