In Focus: Abraham is Chelsea’s future, just not the immediate one

According to ESPN, Chelsea are ready to reward forward Tammy Abraham with bumper new contract following his wonderfully prolific form on loan at Bristol City.

What’s the word?

The Blues are understood to have been impressed with the 19-year-old’s stint in the west country, despite the wider struggles of the Robins this season.

Though Lee Johnson’s side have been battling relegation of late – despite a strong start to the campaign – Abraham has managed to notch 26 goals across all competitions this term as the side’s focal point. While he currently has two years to run on his current deal at Stamford Bridge, he’s believed to be highly rated in west London and top brass are said to have ruled out the possibility of selling him,

Much of a future?

Well, the difficulties young players face in making it into the first-team in SW6 have been well documented in recent years. Still, Antonio Conte has shown a willingness to work with what he’s got, converting Victor Moses (albeit, a lot more experienced) into one of his key players this season, as well as including Nathaniel Chalobah in his match day squads.

Indeed, the report suggests Chelsea have high hopes for him in the future, though could opt to loan him out in the Premier League next season in order to help him develop at a higher level.

Brighton, who will be playing amongst the English elite next season have been credited with an interest in Abraham, which could be a good move for all parties involved.
