Newcastle United have joined Crystal Palace in expressing an interest in signing West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian, according to The Mirror.

What's the story?

The Spaniard's future at the London Stadium looks to be in doubt after the club signed Joe Hart on Tuesday.

The Manchester City shot-stopper has joined the Hammers on a season-long loan, but due to his position as England's number one, he is likely to instantly become first choice.

The Mirror reports that Newcastle and Palace are prepared to pounce for Adrian, who has two years left on his contract.

The Magpies have reportedly been tracking West Ham's other keeper Darren Randolph, but now attention has turned to his teammate.

Do Newcastle have a chance?

There is no reason why not. Given that we will be entering a World Cup year, players want to make sure that they have the best chance of making their national side.

The way to do that is to perform regularly for their respective clubs, and perform well.

If Adrian was to move to St James' Park, then he is likely to be made Rafael Benitez's number one as current shot-stoppers Matz Sels is on loan, Karl Darlow is being linked away from the club and Tim Krul seems to have dropped down the pecking order.

The move would be a boost for Newcastle too, as they will have the capable hands of a player well versed in Premier League football.

If the Magpies want to keep themselves in the top flight, then they need a solid protector in between the sticks.
