In Focus: Arsenal must put Alexis Sanchez drama behind them

As reported by Spanish outlet Don Balon, Manchester City were not the only club on the radar of Alexis Sanchez on transfer deadline day.

What’s the story?

As most supporters of both clubs know by now, Sanchez almost moved North to the Etihad on Thursday, before the move ultimately broke down because Arsenal failed to find an adequate replacement, as reported by the BBC.

However, it seems the player and his agent were angling for a move further afield than the English Premier League. Don Balon say that Sanchez was offered to La Liga giants Real Madrid by the Chilean’s agent, but that Zinedine Zidane but the brakes on any move.

The outlet say the Madrid manager balked at both the transfer fee, thought to be around £69m, and the fact that they could potentially land the attacker next summer for free if he doesn’t sign a new contract with the Gunners.

A way forward

The reality for both Arsenal and Alexis Sanchez now is that they have to work together for the foreseeable future despite the drama that has gone on this summer. It will be a big test of Arsene Wenger’s man management skills to get the Chilean forward back to his best.

The Gunners need him at his best to, if he doesn’t replicate his form or goalscoring from last season then Arsenal could find themselves in trouble in the context of top four UEFA Champions League qualification.

They need to find a happy way forward, for the benefit of the fans and the club.
