According to reports in The Sun, Aston Villa are set to beat a host of Premier League clubs to the signing of Auxerre midfielder Abdoulaye Sissako.
Well, the Championship outfit are said to have watched and been impressed by the performances of the France Under-19 international at the Toulon tournament last week, and they now to be in pole position to bring him to England this summer.
Sissako is a regular fixture for the Under-19s and featured in a 0-0 draw against Wales in the famous competition, and Villa scouts believe he has the potential to go on to become a Premier League star.
Because of his tender years – he only recently turned 19 years of age – he isn’t a regular for the Ligue 2 outfit yet, however he did make 14 appearances in all competitions this season to show the potential he has and how highly-rated he is by the French club.
Villa manager Steve Bruce is desperate to bring in a new midfielder to provide competition for Mile Jedinak next season as the club looks to challenge for automatic promotion back to the Premier League, and Sissako could be the solution to his problem.
The 19-year-old usually plays as a defensively-minded central midfielder and he would provide some much-needed competition in the middle of the park.
Considering he is just 19 and has no experience of playing English football, you would expect that he would gradually be phased into the first team, but of course if Bruce and the coaching staff feel he is ready then he could become a regular fixture in the side instantly.
Well, whether he is one for the future or one for now there is no doubt that Aston Villa would be getting a player with real potential if they sign Sissako this summer.
You don’t play for the France national team youth sides if you don’t have something about you, and the Championship outfit will hope that the midfielder proves to be a worthwhile investment.
