As reported by The Sun, Everton are interested in replacing under pressure manager Ronald Koeman with Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez.

What's the story?

With Everton failing to get going this season after a summer of significant spending, the pressure has really been on Koeman in recent weeks. While results have been poor, it's the performances of his team that are really worrying Toffees fans, with the danger of slipping into form that is outright dangerous to their Premier League survival.

In order to make sure the team turn things around, it seems the Everton hierarchy is arranging alternatives should Koeman continue to slip up. That's according to The Sun, who report the former Liverpool man is high up on the list of potential candidates for the job.

The paper also say players at the club believe it's inevitable Koeman will now get the sack.

Is Benitez the right man to take over?

Wanted man

With Newcastle taking to the English Premier League pretty comfortably this season, without much summer investment, it's clear to see why Benitez would be a wanted man right now, even if you discount his previous achievements in the game.

Don't forget, he's a double La Liga winner with Valencia and led Everton's rivals Liverpool to UEFA Champions League glory, amongst other notable trophy wins as a manager.

His pedigree and current ability to inspire Premier League points makes him an attractive opposition for a team like Everton, who have ambition and the resources to back him at Goodison Park. Those resources have not been readily available at St James' Park.

There's a chance that Koeman can still turn things around, but if he doesn't, the Toffees would be foolish not consider the Spaniard.
